Lysium Farmers Market
The Lysium Farmers Market is an ever changing setup of stalls and booths located within a large courtyard just inside the Public District of the city. This large space, paved with the same beige stone as the rest of the city and its walls, is crowded everyday with citizens from every status and class buying and selling a huge variety of goods.
The Farmers Market is not an official event of the city. Instead it began organically with lowly merchants and farmers without permanent store installments within the city, using this large, open and otherwise abandoned space within the city’s busiest district, to set up and sell wares to those passing by. With the courtyard’s premium location just off the main road going through the district’s gates, the foot traffic was large, with all ranges of citizens and customers, from the rich and powerful, to the common and needy, passing by on their daily commutes. The success of the location drew more merchants each day, those who had a few family heirlooms to sell in desperate times, to those with a knack for a skill but without the coin to set up shop. The courtyard became especially popular for merchants and farmers from outside the city’s walls. Farmers from nearby villages would send produce and product to be sold in the highly populated city, without needing to contract with a Lysium business, or government entity, improving their profits with this new customer base. Travelling merchants, as well, from Avakaron, Brickwell, or other settlements within Winhem, use this space to sell their exotic goods in the Capital.
The range of booths changes everyday. Some merchants have elegant stalls with colorful and decorative signs, expertly constructed to tear down easily and without damage at the end of the selling day. Some merchants have a simple cloth blanket laid upon the ground with a few baubles strewn about. Products range just as wildly, from basic produce and goods found everyday to exotic items with rare ingredients or items made from extreme skill that would make a once in a lifetime purchase. Citizens simply walk through the maze of stalls and booths and setups and gaze at the wares, speak with the merchants and haggle for goods.
Merchants who wish to use this space for their own selling are free to do so. It is recommended to arrive early in the morning in order to be able to set up in a decent location, as the best locations – those nearby the road and gate, tend to be taken quickly. But it is unlikely that one will ever be unable to find a spot to set up, even if that spot is a dusty corner off the beaten path.
