Engineering
The Engineering skill is a Knowledge Specialization skill characters can earn XP in. A character’s Engineering skill represents their ability to design new and elaborate items or systems. Characters with a high Engineering skill typically are talented inventors or engineers who can create or maintain complex machinery or other public work projects.
Engineering includes a variety of actions such as: inventing new items or gear, maintaining existing machinery or public works (like dams, bridges, etc), or creating designs and blueprints of items for others to use. Engineering does not include transforming or using an item for alternative purposes as that would be under the Innovation skill. It also does not include understanding chemical processes that may be required for the item or system to function as that would be under Chemistry. Finally, Engineering does not include designing or creating buildings specifically (like dams and bridges) as that would be under Architecture, though it does include maintaining them.
