Oakenacre

Published by admin on

Settled around 280AC, Oakenacre was formed by a few small families of famers and laborers who wished to get away from the ever growing city of Lysium and start their own farming village and relax in the serenity of the Great Plains. The name, ‘Oakenacre’ came from the large oak trees that dotted their chosen land, their placement out of character for the large, but sprase, Great Plains and the settlements distance from the White Wood Forest.

In the midst of the Great Plains, Oakenacre is surrounded by the great rolling hills. Tiny streams and creeks wind their way through the base of the hills, and the village lies in a small valley, with houses spread apart due to the abundance of land. Small farms and plots dot the landscape growing a variety of crops to sustain the village. Near the ‘center’ of town lies the one and only community building that serves as a tavern, governmental meeting place, and storage for teh entire village. Just outside this building the one public well was dug. Cows, horses and goats roam through the village and its hills, seemingly owned by no one in particular as they pace back and forth to the creeks they drink from.

The settlers planned on a self-sustaining village and hoped to grow enough crops to export their goods back to the capital city, or nearby settlements, thus growing the capital for the village. However the settlement never grew much larger than they started and they soon began to struggle to grow enough food for themselves, let alone to export. This meant they did not import any additional coin into their village and were soon cut off from outside trade due to their lack of tradeable capital.

In the Winter of 320AV the village suffered from a deadly plauge that was eventually traced to a dead man in a well. He had been killed by a poisoned bolt that then infected the village’s drinking supply. The poison was analyised by Lysium, but the culprit was never found. The attack was disatrous to the population and the remaining citizens eventually abanded the town. Now the village is a ghost town with empty houses, rotten crops and a few wandering cattle. This poinsoning event can be read about in this IC thread.
