Telekinesis

Telekinesis

Besides conjuring fire from nothing, there is no better indicator that someone is a Caster than things getting moved around for no apparent reason. Both mystifying and terrifying, Telekinesis allows a Caster superior control of a situation… or at least the environment of their situation.

Personal Rigen is channeled into a narrow, invisible, wire-like extension from the Caster’s mind that responds to their will, often referred to as rigen-wire. The end opposite of the Caster needs to simply make contact with an object in order for the object to become subject to the Caster’s will. The Caster’s sense of touch extends through the rigen-wires, however, there are no pain receptors within the rigen-wire. Once contact is made the Caster functions as an anchor for all the force that is channeled through the rigen-wire. To serve as an anchor, the Caster must have a firm hold, or firm contact, with the ground or a structure attached to the ground. If neither of those requirements are met then the Caster affects themself more than the object they’ve locked their will onto.

Such a situation will generate no effect for less experienced Casters with Telekinesis. For those whose will is strong enough to affect their own body weight, attempts to use Telekinesis while in midair will either push or pull their body towards the object their rigen-wire has attached to. Their control of their own body is not as perfect as their control over an object however, for the body is still the anchor of the spell and subject to gravity. For instance, if the Caster were in freefall as saw a ladder that was out of reach, he could use Telekinesis to grip the ladder with his mind but it would be his body that was pulled or pushed towards it. He could not instantly stop his fall and drift towards safety, but would swing towards it just as though he had thrown a grappling hook onto the ladder.

To a Caster using Auristics, the rigen-wires look like an extension of the Caster’s aura. Any objects that a rigen-wire has latched onto also exhibit the Caster’s aura.

Prerequisites

The Caster must have an understanding of Personal Rigen and how to manipulate it. In order to learn Telekinesis a Caster must have at least 20 skill points in Rigenology.

Initial Learning

An instructor is required to learn Telekinesis and cannot be self-discovered or self-taught. Casters must be instructed on the process of focusing Rigen into a rigen-wire. The instructor must be at least an Expert with the spell.

Skill Levels

Apprentice

In the beginning stages the Caster is learning how to produce their rigen-wire under the guidance of an instructor. They are also working on developing the strength of their will for manipulating objects. As an apprentice they are limited to manipulating objects that weigh less than five pounds. Once they’ve locked their will onto an object they must remain completely focused on the attachment to sustain the spell. The object does not float perfectly still in space but appears to be in a constant state of rotation. An apprentice’s Telekinesis has a maximum range of ten feet. The rigen-wire can be sustained for up to one minute per casting.

Journeyman

Now the Caster begins to learn how to generate more than one rigen-wire at a time. If only one rigen-wire is active then the Caster need not dedicate his full attention to sustaining the spell. A Journeyman is able to produce up to three rigen-wires with a maximum range of twenty-five feet each. The maximum weight the Caster is able to manipulate at any one time is up to fifty pounds. Rigen-wires can be sustained for up to five minutes per casting.

Expert

At this stage the Caster has managed to develop a strong mental will and can generate a half-dozen rigen-wires at once without needing to apply their full attention to their Telekinesis. Objects suspended in the air no longer rotate but slowly bob in the air. Each rigen-wire has a maximum reach of seventy-five feet and cannot collectively lift more than five hundred pounds in total. Rigen-wires can be sustained for up to thirty minutes per casting.

Master

The Caster’s strength of will has reached a point where there are few rivals. The number of rigen-wires they can generate is nearly limitless but cannot exceed a total weight of one thousand pounds. Whenever a master is manipulating more than five hundred pounds they must give their full attention to concentrating on the spell. If a Caster is using five or fewer rigen-wires they are able to manipulate up to five thousand pounds. Regardless of how many rigen-wires a master creates they have a maximum range of two hundred feet. Rigen-wires can be sustained for up to three hours per casting.

100 Points

Casters that have 100 skill points in Telekinesis begin to suffer fewer limitations. They can manipulate up to two thousand pounds with their nearly limitless number of rigen-wires. A Caster need not apply their full concentration to Telekinesis until they are manipulating one thousand pounds. When using ten rigen-wires or less they are able to manipulate up to ten thousand pounds. A master with 100 points has a maximum range of one mile. Rigen-wires can be sustained for up to twelve hours per casting.

Cost

All the Rigen for Telekinesis comes from the Caster’s Spellpool. The base cost is 28 points for when the Caster is using Telekinesis to the best of their ability. When using Telekinesis to a point that a less experienced Caster could produce, the amount taken from their Spellpool is reduced. The following table shows cost regarding a Caster’s capability and the level of Telekinesis they are performing.

Risks

Telekinesis is a relatively low risk spell. The most dangerous thing the Caster faces is potentially depleting their Spellpooll to the extent that they fall unconscious, or potentially die. That is not to say there is low risk in what objects they manipulate or how they manipulate them.
