Ministry Dorms
The Ministry of Casters Campus in Avakaron is extensive and attracts not only students from Avakaron, but also from elsewhere in the region, such as Eastern Steppes villages, or human cities such as Lysium. Even the Lysium Military sends students to the Ministry of Casters to learn from them.
Because of the diverse range of students who attend the school of magic, the Ministry built student dormitories for their out of city students. Those students who live within Avakaron are welcome to stay at their normal homes and longhouses, and outsider students are also welcome to choose residences that are off the official campus, but the dormitories offer a convenient home for many who attend.
The dormitories are somewhat cheap compared to other common rentals around the region. However, they have both pros and cons. For example, the dormitories follow the culture of Avakaron – longhouses with private rooms shared by two different persons. Each room is around 600sq.ft. and holds two beds, two desks, two chests with provided keys, two end tables, and two lamps with provided oil. While some student may know their roommate beforehand, most are strangers and must learn to live together.
It is required that each resident who inhabit the dorms are active Ministry of Caster’s students. Some exceptions may be made to this rule, mainly in situations of family, but these must be approved by the Ministry beforehand and are rare. Along with their rooms, students have access to a large common room with multiple hearths, tables and lounge areas for small social gatherings and cooking meals. These areas are expected to be kept clean and neat by those who use them. Failure to do this may end in consequence, most severely expulsion from the dorms, or even the school. Other rules are scare within the dorms. Rules mainly revolve around keeping areas clean and tidy and having a peaceful relationship with roommates and other students within the dorms.
There are three dorm longhouses in total and each has their own name and dorm patriarch or matriarch that lives within the dorm and keeps order within it. These leaders of the dorms are often high ranking members of the Ministry of Casters staff, and are allowed to live in the dorm they preside over for free, in return, of course, for keeping it in order. Dorm A and B are normal dorms, priced at 1s 2c a day, while dorm C is reserved for more important or wealthy residents or staff members who prefer to live on campus. These dorms tend to be nicer, with a small variety of floorplans with higher rent prices per day.
