Tower of Avakaron

Published by admin on

The Tower of Avakaron is the city center of the Hellbend capital. The Tower has many uses, mainly being the seat of the main governmental body of Avakaron, the Champions Sect. The Tower, standing higher than any other building in the city, including the Sultas Lighthouse on the shore. The Tower is also home to the shrines of the Anorian Gods Nysem, Angrod, Keutan, and Cimese. Nysem and Angrod share an entire floor for their worshippers to visit, and Keutan and Cimese share the next floor up.

The main floor of the Tower is mostly empty, with a few clerical offices and workers available to answer questions and direct visitors to the correct floors and correct people. The second and third floors are for the four God and Goddess shrines and the very top floor is the seat of the Champions Sect. The floors in between range in uses, from meeting rooms, offices, ballrooms, and even housing for select people.

The entire tower is made from the light pink limestone that is found in abundance around Avakaron. The building itself is old, but newer than the Founding Family longhouses that surround it. It is built in a cone-like shape, perfectly round and tapering near the top, but does not quite come to a point. Instead the roof is flat and has a small limestone wall that holds in a tiny, independent garden to give the roof some purpose.

The most notable feature of the Tower of Avakaron is the giant Enchanted Clock that was built into the front of the tower. This clock is around 50 feet in diameter and centers itself near the middle top of the tower. It is also made of the pink limestone along with the rest of the structure, but is intricately carved with both time keeping marks and carvings of Gods, the sky and other patterns. The ‘dial’ of the Enchanted Clock reaches straight upwards and casts a Rigen shadow at all times of the day to determine the exact time, down to the second. At night the clock instead casts a dim light to tell the time, rather than a shadow. This clock, due to its position on the Tower, can be seen by nearly all of Avakaron at all times.
