History

As the Anorian races traveled through the Rigen portal created by the Gods and into the new world of Siliren, most came across the other end unscathed. But others were too weak to handle the massive amounts of power the portal held. These individuals, a fraction from all of the Anorian races, were forever changed as the Rigen coursed through their bodies, turning them into what is now known as the Hellbend race.

This mutation changed nearly every aspect of the people affected. Suddenly they were different, scared, and sought protection and comfort from their families. But the change scared their families too, and the Hellbends were pushed out of the circles they had always been a part of, considered polluted and evil, the physical representation of the damage the Domain War did to Anore. And so they were left, abandoned by their people, in a world unfamiliar and hostile. So they fled, grouping together, strangers alike only in their sickness. They traveled far, uninhibited by the war that occupied the rest of the world. They had a head start, and an empty world to choose from. Some groups broke off, while others kept traveling, and the result was born a few bands of Hellbends across the eastern continents. They settled and formed cities of their own, but remained hidden from the rest of the world’s population for quite some time. The first to find them were the Humans that had settled in Winhem. A truce was formed, born out of the two group’s hatred for the Anorians as well as their new name, Hellbend, as the Humans called them. With this truce, the Hellbends were once again opened up to the outside, and they began traveling between Human and Hellbend cities alike.

While Hellbends are now mostly welcomed in any society on Siliren, the race themselves tends to shy away from interactions with the Anorians, still hurt and betrayed by the races for shunning them in their time of need. Instead, they stay close to the Humans and others of their kind, however, relationships with the Anorians are possible.

Biology

Physical Appearance

Hellbends bear no resemblance to the races they were originally. They are rather tall and have dense, thick bodies. Their skin is a very dark red, often mistaken for black in low light settings, the palms of their feet and hands, a lightened pinkish-red, while their nails are black. The hair color of Hellbends are either a pitch-black, or can lighten to a maroon, or other dark shade of red. The color does not fade with age. Each Hellbend has a pair of horns growing from the skull. The horns can grow in the middle of the forehead, or can begin behind the ear or anywhere in between. Each horn is covered in the same skin as the rest of their body and can grow up to 6 inches long, they almost always grow in a smooth curve and point away from the face. The inside of a Hellbends mouth, the tongue, and gums are black, though the sharp teeth are white. Their eyes can be red, black, grey, or white. They have rounded to very slightly pointed ears that are normal-sized, relatively speaking.

Reproduction

Hellbends become sexually mature at age 16, as they grow quite rapidly, despite their long lifespans. Despite the original Hellbends being born of another race, two Hellbend parents will always bear a Hellbend child. In fact, crossbreeding between a Hellbend and an Anorian race will also bear a Hellbend child, while mating between Humans and Hellbends will never produce an offspring. Hellbend women carry their children for 12 months and only ever produce one child. Despite this, there is around a 30% chance the child will be stillborn, with the Hellbends accrediting this to the large amounts of Rigen in their bodies killing the fetus. Once born, infant Hellbends do not nurse, and instead are born with full sets of teeth and can begin eating solid foods (though still relatively soft for the first few months), and can walk by the age of 2 months. By year two Hellbend children are extremely agile and able, fluent in speech and comprehension. By age five they are considered children rather than toddlers and begin learning aggressively. Age twelve represents the beginning of their teenage years which ends as they become adults at 16.

Names

Hellbend names are somewhat unique in their own way. They tend to start with a vowel, and/or have an abundance of vowels in the name. They use harsher sounding consonants, such as K’s, Z’s and G’s. Hellbends have both a first name as well as a family name.

Hellbends that originate in Avakaron have more specific and limited surnames than other Hellbends. Most Avakaronian Hellbends originated from a few distinct families, and those surnames still exist today. While other families have popped up, these families are large and diverse and take up the majority of the population within the city proper. Be sure to take a look at the Avakaron Families lore page to get familiar with these families.

Language

The entirety of the Hellbend population speaks the Rigarian language. This was the ‘common’ language back on Anore – where every race had their own cultural language but learned Rigarian to communicate outside their race. After The Change Days, and the creation of the Hellbend race, the only way each mutated Anorian could talk to their new peers was through Rigarian, since they all originated as different races.
