Government Centre Sundial

The Government Circle of Lysium was built in such a way that the buildings all create a circular courtyard in the middle of the district. In the middle of this courtyard is a large water fountain, and the yard itself is paved with stone. Often this courtyard is used for large political gatherings, but on most days it is empty except for the comings and goings of people with business in the Circle. 

This circular courtyard hosts the largest Sundial that currently exists in Siliren. Nearly 100 feet in diameter, this sized Sundial is the most accurate one known and can – most of the time – accurately state the time down to the second. The Sundial is made from carving into the stone floor as well as paint that is repainted and kept perfect year round. As with all Sundials, the ‘dial’ points to the north – thus making this dial a stationary compass as well. Due to its large size the dial is hollow, with only the triangle’s edge being made from sturdy stone and the inner surface area empty so that the large structure does not negatively impact travel in the busy district. 

Of course, no matter the size of a Sundial, the device is only accurate during sunny days and never during nighttime. Unlike the Tower of Avakaron which hosts a large Sundial that is Rigenically enhanced to tell time no matter what, the Humans do not trust magic and Rigen and so this Timekeeping device is simple.

While other methods of Timekeeping exist in Lysium, this Sundial is more useful in terms of history and aesthetics. While it can, of course, be useful to those who spend a lot of time in the Government Circle, this Sundial does not contribute to the majority of the city’s population.
