Teaching

The Teaching Basic skill that players or NPCs can earn IC that grants players they teach additional XP in the skill they are teaching. This Basic skill cannot be taken at Character creation, unlike other Basic Skills. Teaching can only be awarded post creation. Obtaining the Teaching skill allows the Teacher to give their students a skill bonus to the skills being taught in a thread, and allows the Teacher to rightfully charge more coin for their services.

Note: A Character does not have to have this skill in order to teach. In fact, one must teach in order to even gain this skill.

Levels and Skill Bonuses

The Teaching skill is a Basic Skill with three levels: Poor, Moderate, and Known.

At a Poor Teaching level, the Teacher gives a +2 skill bonus to their pupil. This means when the Teacher participates in a thread where they actively teach the student a skill the Teacher is skilled in, not only does the pupil gain skill points in the skill when the thread is graded like normal, the grader will also award the student and extra 2 points in the taught skill. At a Moderate level, the bonus is +3, and at a Known level, the bonus is +4.

Skill Progression

To gain tiers in Teaching, players must apply for the next tier in this request thread located in the Request Center.

No skill -> Poor Level

To gain the Teaching skill from no skill to a Poor level a PC must apply for the skill. In order to apply a PC must request the skill in the Grade Request Thread and provide at least 3 threads in which the PC actively teaches another PC a skill the Teacher is familiar with. The teaching should be the main focus of the thread and the student must gain at least 5 skill points in the taught skill once the thread is graded. Teaching an NPC does not contribute to this application.

Poor Level -> Moderate Level

To improve the Teaching Skill from Poor to Moderate a PC must apply for the skill in the Grade Request Thread and provide 4 threads in which the PC actively teaches another PC a skill the Teacher is familiar with. The teaching should be the main focus of the thread and the student must gain at least 5 skill points in the taught skill once the thread is graded. Teaching an NPC does not contribute to this application. These 4 threads MUST be different than the ones provided in the Poor level application.

Moderate Level -> Known Level

To improve the Teaching skill from Moderate to Known a PC must apply for the skill in the Grade Request Thread and provide 4 threads in which the PC actively teaches another PC a skill the Teacher is familiar with. The teaching should be the main focus of the thread and the student must gain at least 5 skill points in the taught skill once the thread is graded. Teaching an NPC does not contribute to this application. These 4 threads MUST be different than the ones provided in the Poor level application.

Restrictions and Regulations

A PC can only gain a level in the Teaching skill once per season. For example, one cannot go from no skill to Poor to Moderate in one Spring Season and instead must wait until Summer to level from Poor to Moderate.
