Boga's Scars
Bo’s appearance is unlike that of many of his Hellbend brethren with iridescent, wavy hair and a deep mahogany skin tone that tapers to a cherry blossom pink at his palms and the souls of his feet. His hair is approximately 6" long and he occasionally French braids the sides or makes small braided strands, mimicking the elaborate braids he used to do when his hair was much longer. His beard is scruffy and composed of the same shimmering strands of white, colourful hair and is about the same length as his normal hair. His body hair, however, is more reminiscent of an elderly human with salt and pepper like colourations. Some of the hair is black, as his hair used to be, but newer hairs that have grown in are the same colour as his snowy beard, giving his naturally forested skin an almost spotted appearance to it.
His face has a hard, notable silhouette due to a strong jawline that juts forward into an underbite and a heavy brow. Comparatively to these features, he has a rather small, slightly upturned nose and deeply set eyes that are often casted in the shadow of his protruding brow line. His eyes are a rich, dark red, bordering black to the point they are often mistaken for dark brown.
Despite these features, however, Bo is certainly most notable for his sheer size. Standing at a natural 7’2”, Bo looks even taller with his horns that protrude from his forehead upward, giving him a total height of 7’6” and is roughly 480 pounds. Bo also has a wide stature with broad shoulders and thick limbs like his brethren, and this paired with the leanness he has achieved due to a lifetime of heavy labour, Bo is an impressive wall of meat that would be hard to miss in a crowd.
If one were to talk to Bo, they would find that his voice carries through the air like a knife through butter, the chest deep bassy voice sounding like boulders tumbling off of cliffs. Because of this, he is often louder than he usually intends to be and sometimes struggles with having an “indoor” voice, especially when discussing topics of his interest. But on the flip side, the unusually deep tones can be hard to understand when he is quiet enough, his words turning into unintelligible rumbling at best, making whispering an ineffective way for Bo to communicate. But Bo doesn’t come across these instances often, since people either want to hear him clearly or don’t want him to talk at all, so in the end, Bo doesn’t really mind.
Due to his typically labour intensive, odd end jobs, Bo chooses his clothes based on their comfort, wanting loose fits for the most mobility. His income is inconsistent, resulting in him being able to afford replacements for damaged or worn-out clothes, but not enough to afford more expensive attire or accessories.
Boga has endured many hardships in his life and has many scars to show for it. The oldest of these scars is a set of three— a thin line that goes from just below his belly button down to his lower waist, a very small oblong knick above his adam's apple, and a small, round bald patch on the right side of his head above his ear. These scars are significantly older than the rest and are much harder to see due to how they have faded with the years and how his excessive hair obscures most of it.
The scars that follow these are much more recent and do not have the same faded look to them as the others. A burn scar stretches across Boga's right shoulder, leaving it dark, leathery, and hairless. Less severe burn scars sprawl across his hand and forearms and his feet and shins but they still are quite leathery and very little hair grows in these patches.
Another scar divides his left forearm into two with a thin, vertical, and straight line that cuts overtop the burns. With similar colouration as said scars is a second, oblong scar sits overtop his lower, right ribs.
Three lines also part Boga's back. A very thick strip of lightened, raised skin crosses his entire back at a 10 to 4 angle. Two parallel lines, much thinner than the first, vertically cut through the larger cut, forming a vaguely H or N shape.
Finally, the freshest of all the scars, are branded marks on Boga's horns, indicative of the crimes he committed in Avakaron. These brandings are almost always covered by several blue and yellow ribbons that he wraps around the full length of his horns.
Personality:
[Friendly Natured]
Bo’s natural instinct is to be friendly towards others, even in awkward and sometimes hostile situations. Being an outcast all of his life, he desperately seeks companionship with the community around him, though he often fails. He'll give anyone a chance and actively try to befriend or otherwise improve the day of the person he's interacting with, not wanting anyone to feel the same way he does. This sometimes comes at a cost since at times he will trust the wrong person or say the wrong things, resulting in the same type of shenanigans that Bo tries to avoid in the first place.
[Protective]
Even before the recent traumas of his life, Boga has always been protective of the people and things around him. With so few friends and with so few belongings, it's difficult for Bo to settle down when people or his things are in potential danger. If he finds value in something, whether that be a rock, a person, or otherwise, Boga will go to extreme lengths to defend it, often forgoing the less extreme options first. Even intangible things aren’t excluded from Bo’s natural instincts, for he protects his routine, ideas he’s had, his dreams, memories, his sense of free will, and more. This overprotectiveness has done it's job in keeping the people he loves relatively safe, but when mixed with his more erratic traits, his protectiveness can override his judgement and cause him to do drastically radical things, sometimes at the detriment of others.
[Anxious]
Boga has experienced a significant amount of loss and pain throughout his life with very few people or things to help him. From bad reputation with his home city of Avakaron, to feeling alien with other Hellbends for his mutations, to being spited by gods at every turn, Bo is constantly anxious about his actions and the consequences that they have. When things start to turn sour, even in basic conversations, Boga tends to spiral into a chain of anxious thoughts that leave him feeling like he always does something wrong and that he is worthless or deserves punishment. As such, his anxiety amplifies his other traits even more, further justifying in his head why he should be super friendly with those around him or why he should be extra protective of his things. While this doesn't always end up in dramatics, there have been more than one instance where Boga's anxiety has lead to catastrophe.
[Erratic]
For those who don’t understand Bo on an intimate level and understand why he sometimes acts the way he acts, Bo is an extremely erratic person. While he typically is very friendly and doesn’t enjoy direct violence, he also is very quick to switch between emotions and struggles to communicate these changes. At times, Bo will seem to be extremely upset over very little, or even nothing at all, and since Bo struggles to communicate these changes, it makes him a fairly erratic person to talk to. He can be having an average conversation or simply sparring with a trainer and suddenly become extremely hostile or otherwise aggressive over minor inconveniences. And typically Bo is just as quick to deescalate as well, making his emotions seem more like whiplash or episodic reactions rather than calculated decisions. He can always seem erratic in positive situations as well as he will sometimes change subjects in conversations to talk about a specific interest or refuse to move on from the topic, among other things.
History:
Bo grew up in a household of 12, his father, his stepmother, 2 siblings, and 7 half-siblings. Bo was the 3rd child born into his family and was an exceptionally large infant. This caused significant issues for his birth mother, who had already had birthing complications with his older siblings, Sakhra and Deego. Despite the help from the many nurses who had helped his mother in her previous labours, Bo’s mother died shortly after giving birth to him. Bo had always been aware of this fact, but was actively told by his father that this was not his fault, for she understood the risks of having another child after the initial complications with his siblings. Because of this, neither Bo nor his siblings blame Bo for her death.
Before Bo grew out of his toddler years, his father remarried to a woman named Finka, and they had 7 children together, Xagor, Gunth, Ayday, Jibek, Sharipov, Nurayda, and Kirsh. Bo’s family was close, and while Finka was only a stepmom, and her children were only his half-siblings, Bo, Sakhra, and Deego all gladly accepted them into the family. This was partially due to the fact that Bo and his older brother Deego both were too young to remember their birth mother, and Sakhra, the eldest, was impressionable and understood the Hellbend culture of accepting other Hellbends. Together, Bo and his siblings happily grew up with vibrant childhoods of play and laughter.
However, things slowly started to change when they were old enough to start getting an education. While his siblings all took well to learning in school and got along with other kids that the community taught, Bo struggled in both areas. He was slower than his peers to understand the concepts he was being taught, despite the many hours he would pour into practice at home. He also struggled to make friends with other kids because the other kids either were too intimidated by his size to interact with him at all, or they didn’t know how to talk to Bo without him getting upset. For several years, he only had his siblings to play with, for the others were not patient enough to understand Bo and how he liked to play or learn. His parents tried for those several years to help Bo become a part of the community, but time and time again, Bo would struggle, and struggle, and struggle with countless nights of tears and fury directed towards Bo’s learning or his peers. When the problem seemed to only escalate, his parents felt forced to reconsider other options for Bo.
It was no secret that Bo was bigger and stronger than his fellow Hellbend. While getting an education would benefit him in his potential future of being a historian or Geologist, Bo never struggled in physical activities (outside of standing still), and thus could live a happy life performing varying acts of physical labour. He wouldn’t struggle as much with learning and he would have less need to get along with his peers. At least so his parents thought. So for the rest of his childhood and teen years, Bo learned how to perform various types of physical labour, like farming, fishing, shipping cargo, and other tasks.
And just like his parents had expected, Bo used those skills to take on odd jobs, making his living based on the needs of his community. While Bo does wish he had continued his education and moved on to do something more mentally challenging like his siblings, Bo takes pride in helping out his community in a more rustic way and doesn’t look down on his line of work in the slightest.
