Goldensands

Goldensands is a small manufacturing village in the southern Great Plains of Winhem. It was settled in the year 32 AC by Toivo Salminen after his search for the element of Sulfur ended when a small thermal vent was discovered and found to be surrounded by a huge mass of Sulfur. The element, used in the production of Black Powder, was highly desired by Toivo and so the area became a large hub for production of the explosive powder. 

Goldensands was named by Salminen after the color and texture of the mineral that brought him there. The settlement started off small, just Toivo and his employees, but after the re-invention of the Relic Technology of Black Powder became a huge success and demand skyrocketed, the village grew exponentially. Workers flocked to the village to help mine the Sulfur and participate in the other many different jobs related to the production of Black Powder and now the village is a thriving, though still small, town. The location exists solely for the manufacture of Black Powder and so while taverns, farms and other unrelated businesses exist, they exist only to directly benefit the work of Black Powder production. 

Goldensands is located in the southwest Great Plains, about a day’s travel from the edge of the White Wood Forest to the east and a week’s travel from the Triiping Sea to the south. Because of its far distance from either of the large Human cities of Lysium and Brickwell, and even farther from the Hellbend city of Avakaron, many ‘citizens’ of Goldensands are temporary workers who, after a few seasons or years, eventually leave to return to their original homes. Families are rare and those who are permanent residents usually own businesses that are somewhat separate from the Black Powder production and instead support the everyday lives and needs of the workers. Most residents of the village are Human, and it is rare to see a Hellbend around the town. Hellbends who do participate usually are lower class workers as the production does not want to give Hellbends the exact knowledge needed to create Black Powder in case a second, Hellbend controlled, Sulfur location is found.
