Bluestar Rose

Bluestar Rose

An extremely rare flower that only blossoms once a decade. It is highly sought by many experienced Alchemists for its potent reservoir of rigen.

Description

The Bluestar Rose grows atop a foot and a half tall, dark red stalk. Three large dark red petals, that are eight inches in length each, encase the flower before it blooms. When the Bluestar Rose blooms, the three petals open to reveal that their interior is a luminescent arctic blue that glimmers. The rose itself is a crystal blue which turns to face the direction of the moon during the night, and six inches in diameter. Its crystal blue colored petals radiate a gentle light that strongly resembles moonlight.

Plant Physiology

Unlike most plants, the Bluestar Rose does not require sunlight or water to grow. This allows it to grow seemingly in any environment. The plant absorbs rigen from the atmopool, rigen from expended spells nearby, and rigen that detaches from the decay of corpses in close proximity. Its exterior is tough, making it extremely difficult to pull from the ground or to cut the flower from its stalk. The texture of its exterior is rough and porous.

Despite the crystal appearance of the actual rose, it is soft and flexible. It also is coated in translucent pollen.

Pulling the Bluestar Rose from the ground requires a Physique roll of 125 or better.
Cutting the flower from the stalk requires a Weapon (that can cut) roll of 100 or better.

Life Cycle

In the most isolated regions of the world, the Bluestar Rose requires twelve years to absorb enough rigen to be able to bloom. Where corpses are left to rot or areas where magic is used frequently, the rose is able to bloom even sooner. There is no known instance of a Bluestar Rose requiring less than nine years to absorb enough rigen. For the last 3-5 years, depending on the rate of rigen absorption, the bulbs begin to emit its translucent pollen to be carried by the wind. When the rose is days away from blooming, the veins on the petals and stalk emanate a dull violet glow.

Once the Bluestar Rose blooms, it immediately dies, but continues expelling an aura of silvers and blues that can be seen by auristics. Four days after blooming, the flower quickly wilts over the course of a day.

Market Values

While no one has had success in growing a domesticated Bluestar Rose, Alchemists have discovered a few uses from the pollens and petals. However, the Bluestar Rose has no use if harvested before it blooms, making alchemical products extraordinarily rare and valuable. Enchanters can use the petals and stalks to power the enchanting process with less risk of damaging the item being imbued.

  • Bluestar Rose – A single, harvested bluestar rose has a Market Value of 75 Gold.
  • Caster’s Respite – When this potion is consumed it completely restores a person’s spellpool to its maximum. Market Value of 200 Gold.
  • Nilata’s Nectar – The Bluestar Rose petals can be brewed into a tea by an Expert Alchemist. There is only enough tea for one cup, which only one person can benefit from. Whoever drinks this tea receives a permanent +25 increase to their Spellpool. It requires three bluestar roses to create one Nilata’s Nectar. Market Value of 500 Gold.

Moderation

Knowledge of this flora is kept by a niche group of people, mostly Alchemists, some Botanists, a few Enchanters, and any Casters that have somehow discovered the Bluestar Rose during its blooming period. The purchase or use of a Caster’s Respite requires Moderator approval. Nilata’s Nectar can only be received by completing a difficult Quest that has been pre-approved by a Moderator.
