Rigen Glossary

Published by Abraxas on

This Glossary contains many key terms associated with Rigen and Spells. Many of these terms are specific to certain Spells, and some are overarching terms every Caster should know. These terms are most often seen used in Spell Lore Articles or other Rigen related articles and they are defined here.

Ardention

Occurs when too much Rigen has been harnessed from the Atmopool. The instability of the Atmopool causes the unbonded Rigen to generate random spell effects and magic storms. Ardention is noticable because the air itself develops a glow before the Rigen begins to act chaotically.

Atmopool

The collection of unbonded Rigen that is present within a one thousand square foot area.

Caster

A person that is educated in the ways of manipulated bonded or unbonded Rigen to generate a spell.

Conversion

Rigen can cause a chemical reaction involving the surrounding molecules. These reactions generate a variety of outcomes from solid objects, to liquids, or unique particles. Casters learn various methods of Conversion to create earth, water, air, fire, light, and darkness.

Depletion

When a Caster uses too much bonded Rigen within themselves, depleting their Spellpool and causing physical negative effects.

Divarication

A component of Runistics. A method to safely combine or split Pathways (See Below) so that the stored Rigen remains stable.

Glyph

A Component of Runistics. The central design where Pathways (See Below) converge to generate a predesigned spell effect.

Orrah-stream

Unbonded Rigen that is in constant motion to fill any absences of Rigen in the Atmopool. Because these movements are not random, unbonded Rigen flows through Siliren like ocean currents. Teleporters study how to get swept into these currents and navigate them for travel.

Pathway

A component of Runistics. Controls the directional flow of Rigen of a spell that is stored in a medium.

Prompt

A component of Runistics. Blocks the Rigen in a Pathway (See Above) from entering the Glyph (See Above) until a specified condition has been met.

Represser

A component of Runistics. Serves as a barrier that prevents the Rigen of a stored spell from leaking out of the medium.

Rigen-wire

An invisible collection of Personal Rigen that extends from a Caster’s body to physically manipulate objects and collect tactile sensory input.

Rigen-coupling

Sometimes referred to as a coupling, an invisible collection of Personal Rigen from two living sentient beings that connects them.

Rigenic Poisoning

Occurs when a large presence of unbonded rigen has entered the body. The unbonded rigen causes damage to organic tissue until it either leaves the body or becomes a stable bonded particle. Effects vary based on what bodily functions are exposed to the unbonded rigen.

Rigionic Bonding

The process in which bonded rigen from organic material is combined with the bonded rigen from another different organic material to generate a desired magical effect.

Rune

A collection of Runistic components that generate a logogram, ideogram, geometric, or hierglyphic image capable of storing a spell.

Spellpool

The collection of bonded rigen within a living organism. See the Spellpool page for more details.

Surgence

An occurrence when a caster has more Rigen attempting to bond to their body than what their maximum tolerance allows. While the Caster may experience heightened energy and euphoria, they gradually suffer from internal bleeding, exploding blood vessels, and organ failure if the excess Rigen is not expelled from the Caster’s body.

Thera-stream

Certain astrological elements not found on Siliren that are capable of acting as a conduit for Rigen. When enough of these elements are present to formulate visible space debris it creates a mass usually similar to that of a nebula. Patterns of these masses can take strategic locations between Siliren and other planetoids capable of supporting life. A Thera-stream is a collection of these masses that are in proper alignment to act as a bridge between Siliren and another world.

Ward

A pattern formed by linking Rigen from the Atmopool to create magical barriers. See Warding for more details.
