The Creation and Evolution of the Human City of Lysium

As the Universe War drew to a close, the remaining humans struggled to survive in the changed and ravaged lands of Siliren. The small population grouped together and retreated deep into the Great Plains of Winhem, where they settled near the middle of the area on the shore of the Glancing Giant Lake. Consisting mostly of male fighters and warriors who had survived the war, along with a few women and children, the population struggled at first, relying on fishing as their main source of food.

As the remaining humans found their way to the settlement, it grew and began to rely more on herding domesticated animals. In the Second Generation, the population became mostly centralized in Winhem in a small herding community on the shore of the large lake, which would later become known as Lysium.

However, the population growth revealed a large imbalance in the gender ratio, with few women and many men dying childless. The new gods recognized the importance of watching over the humans, and Angtas, the Goddess of Balance, Seasons, and Fertility, foresaw the extinction of the human race due to this gender imbalance. She gifted the women of the Second Generation with increased fertility and more years of it, leading to a population boom with the Third Generation and the growth of Lysium.

Despite the connection between the Goddess of Balance and the city’s new name, Lysium was named after the balance the city achieved on its own. The city grew to revolve around law rather than faith, unlike many other cities built by their new world neighbors. The ruling First Generation held hatred and distrust of the outside world, and as their city prospered, they put most of their extra efforts into building a defense against it, leading to the birth of the great Lysium military.

As the human population grew and began to rival its pre-war numbers, people formed villages and settlements across the Great Plains, and Lysium officials built outposts to better protect their people. For the first time since its founding, humans encountered a new race, which they dubbed “Hellbends,” who had hidden throughout Siliren during The Change Days. Despite their distaste for anything reminding them of The Change Days, the humans forged a tentative relationship with the Hellbends, and trade flourished between Lysium and the Hellbend communities.

Lysium became the capital city of Winhem, and almost all current humans can trace their lineage back to the original settlers of the Glancing Giant Lake. The Lysium military is present throughout the Great Plains, and commerce thrives between different human towns and cities, as well as the growing Hellbend presence in Winhem. Over time, the human distaste for the new race dulled, and some of these strangers can be found within Lysium. A few larger human cities have sprung up around the Great Plains, but all still look towards Lysium for support and guidance.
