Lysium Military

Published by admin on

Since the Universe War, the Lysium Military has been the Human’s largest organization. Despite the Human race being driven back to a small region of the world, currently, the Military boasts around 100,000 members across all of Winhem. Nearly anyone who wishes to join the group is accepted, and not every role within the Military required combat skillsets. The pursuits of the Military are vast and changing. Some Lysium Generations will focus their efforts on fortification while others pursue expansion. The Tenth Generation’s focus is currently on expansion.

The leadership of the military rests with the Head of Military whom, when elected, hold the position until the beginning of Lysium’s next generation, or until they retire. While the general public refers to the individual as Head of Military, their official rank within the organization is known as ‘Praetor’. In Lysium’s early generations it was possible for any military officer to become elected as Praetor. However, at the end of the Fourth Generation, the Military and Council Three established additional parameters restricting who could have a candidacy. Now it is required to be a ‘Legate’ rank, and at least two Legates are always proposed to the general public to vote upon. Among the Legates, if there is a two-thirds majority vote a Legate’s proposal to become Praetor can be denied. This helps to ensure that the Praetor is well-respected, well-liked, and rational.

Rankings

The main colors of a soldier’s outfit are Cadet Blue (#528bab), a light blueish green, with bronze accents. Members of the military receive pants, coats, formal outfits, and a leather helmet or hat (once a Vetrarn) with the appropriate colors. These uniforms are loaned to each member and must be returned if they leave the military for any reason. Ranks are determined by the image patch made with silver thread over the left breast and on the outside of both sleeves. The regular military personnel have bars and chevrons. Higher ranks transition to gold thread stars; one for Peluenus, two for Legate, and three for Praetor.

The Theurgiony

The Theurgiony is Lysium’s magic branch of the Military. Knowing a spell does not automatically grant access, a certain degree of competence is required as well as adequate knowledge. The lowest rank Theurgist is equal in rank to an Admonus. Members of the Theurgiony serve as specialist officers. For now, they command regular soldiers and not squadrons entirely composed of Casters. The Theurgiony was formed during the Tenth Generation as a means to bolster the military’s might and bring some order to those pursuing magical knowledge. This Military branch attempts to track all casters within Lysium, members, or not.

Rankings

Members of the Theurgiony have uniforms with their primary color as Cool Blue (#4984b8) with white accents. The higher ranks, starting with Magister, hold the option of wearing robes or the standard uniforms with shoulder pads and a cloak in addition. Magisters also begin to possess different colored patches on their uniforms to represent the type of magic they specialize in. Personal Rigen Casters have a Purple bar while Harnessed Rigen casters have a Red bar. Theurgiony members in the Creative Rigen fields have a Black bar. Some variation exists in the form of additional color options, but the color almost immediately identifies their specialty. Unlike the regular military personnel, a member of the Theurgiony must purchase their uniforms from the military. As Theurgiony uniforms are much more personalized and the military keeps less in stock.

The imagery to determine a Theurgiony member’s rank is a little more complicated than the standard military. First they possess a runic circle with two pips on opposite ends, but only on the rune located on the left breast. The pips reflect which spells they’ve studied and their capability in that spell. As they advance the runic design acquires more shapes while becoming more complex. Phetarums add a circle inside their first one, Magisters add an equilateral triangle with the points touching the outermost circle. Venetor adds an additional circle within the triangle, and the Juralus adds a multi-pointed star inside the triangle but outside the innermost circle. The caster’s main specialty is placed within the innermost circle, or within the triangle for Venetors. Master pips are placed on the star’s points, Expert pips on triangle points or lines, Journeyman pips along the second outermost circle, and Apprentice pips along the outer circle.

The Praecant’s rune-rank is a three point star reaching into three runic circles. Each circle represents the three types of rigen to study with their associated spell pips attached to that rune circle. Any additional spell pips earned before a caster ranks up are placed along the outermost circle.

Contention exists among the regular and magical ranks of the Military because no decision has been made on whether the Theurgiony holds superior, equal, or inferior authority to their non-magical counterparts. The exception being the Praecant, which holds more authority than Legate. There is only ever one Praecant which serves as the figurehead of the Theurgiony and answers only to the Praetor.

As of Summer 320 AC, The Lysium Military negotiated a deal with Avakaron’s Ministry of Casters to accept Lysium soldiers for spell training. Soldiers that achieved the rank of Incantus receive a 40% discount on rent to live in Avakaron and get a 5 Ruby stipend per season that can only be used to cover admission to a class. After three seasons (of active roleplay in which the PC has utilized these benefits) an evaluation for each Incantus is performed with the hopes they have met the prerequisites to advance in rank to Phetarum. If the Incantus has managed to increase one spell to Expert level, or increase Rigenology to Expert level, but fails to meet the other prerequisites, the Lysium Military will provide one last additional season of living discounts and stipends. If the Incantus has failed to increase any spells, or Rigenology, during the three seasons then they are recalled to Lysium and must advance their spells and skills on their own time, with their own funding.

A Moderator must give approval for a PC to be accepted into the program and are the ones that perform the evaluation of the PC’s progress after three seasons. The evaluation can occur OOC or can be done in-thread.

Authority

Because the Theurgiony branch is a very recent development in the Lysium Military, it is experiencing growing pains. While the regular military positions are well established, it is still unclear what a high ranking Theurgionist’s role is in the day-to-day operations of the Military. A majority of Humans are still fearful and don’t trust magic. A Caster in the Military will often experience disrespect from personnel of higher rank, equal rank, and even from lower ranks. It would not be unheard of for a Caster’s authority to be completely disregarded by Bellators outside of a life or death scenario. The current Praetor, while having established the Theurgiony branch, does not appear to have any concerns on this issue.
