Dockhouse

Dockhouse

While there are three large docks on the shore of Avakaron, there is only one small Dockhouse that manages those docks. The Dockhouse is both the office and home of the Dockmaster, who runs the shipyard on a daily basis through it.

The house itself is rather small compared to the massive longhouses most Hellbends call home. The Hellbend Dockmaster lives there along with her Human husband and their two adopted Hellbend children, the kids of the Dockmasters deceased brother in law and sister, and one Human teenager, the son of the Husband from a previous, but quick, relationship. The family mostly keeps to themselves, since they are oftentimes seen as outcasts by the community because of the strange makeup. While this feeling is common among many Avakaronians, it is relatively dulled because the respect for the Dockmaster is extremely high from the Champions Sect, and therefore the rest of the city.

The house is made from white birch wood, blasted by salt from the sea, giving it a rough and worn look, despite it being a relatively new and upgraded building. The house is one floor, with three rooms, two bedrooms, one for the adults the other for the Hellbend children and a large kitchen and living space. There is a small loft in the rafters of the home, accessible by a ladder, that the teenager calls his own. At the front of the house, accessible only through an exterior door, is the office of the docks. This is where the Dockmaster spends most of her days, and where clients come to reserve ships or pay for dock rent, among other things.

The office itself is small, a large desk, chair, and some filing cabinets, the most dominating feature of the office is the enormous amount of papers strewn about, on the desk, nailed to the wall, even littering the floor. Its a wonder how the Dockmaster keeps everything organized. But she’s never seemed to have a problem with it. The docks run smoothly because of her management and there is rarely a problem.

It is important to note that the Dockmaster does not own the docks, or her own house, but instead are owned by the Champions Sect, as is most of the city. The house is gifted to her and her family as part of her job. Her pay is also managed by the Champions Sect.

NPCs

Aidana Irdis

Aidana is the Dockmaster of Avakaron, and a member of the strong Irdis family. She, as common with the Irdis’s, spent a lot of time near the shore and the ocean growing up. Aidana had an affinity for the docks and the ships that passed by. She has worked at the docks for many years, building up her skills, before being promoted to Dockmaster. Now she runs the entire place. A few years ago, Aidana’s sister and brother in law died in a tragic boating incident, never returning to the shore, and leaving behind their two children. Aidana, being very close to her sister, immediately took it upon herself to raise the children alongside her human stepson.

Dennis Erivet

Born in a small town on the river in the Great Plains, Dennis Erivet was always fascinated by the riverboats going towards Lysium from Avakaron and back. He grew up a simple fisher with his family. At some point in his history, he had a brief relationship with a woman from his village, a son was born from it. The woman seemed to have no interest in the child, or Dennis, and in order to give his child a life away from that negativity, he hitched a ride on a ship headed to Avakaron.

He and the infant child arrived and Avakaron and Dennis got a job at the docks, fishing on the side to make an income. Soon he made enough to buy a small houseboat for him and his son. Not long after Dennis met Aidana, a woman much his junior, and the two fell in love. Many years have since passed, and the family lives happily at the Dockhouse.
