Dreamscape Lily

Published by admin on

Name: Sacred Dreamscape Lily

Type: Unique

Rarity: Rare

Status: Mostly harvested wild, but gaining popularity

Apperance and Life Cycle

Dark green pads can reach the surface from up to 4’ deep, and are about the size of a plate, or 12” across. White and pink flowers bloom in the spring and summer, opening just before dusk and closing by dawn. Each flower has about 24 petals, with a golden yellow center that smells sweet and attracts moths. The flowers will bloom for 4 to 5 days before the stem starts to corkscrew, pulling the bloom below the surface where the seeds mature. Each flower can provide roughly 15 seeds, which are marble size and float when released. After about 7 days the seeds will sink again, quick to sprout if in good soil. The pads will die in a freeze, but the root and stem remain and the plant can recover quickly.

Habitat

Found in shaded ponds, slow-covered streams, and wet caves of Winhem, the Sacred Dreamscape Lily grows best in shallow water of less than 4’ with no more than 2 hours of direct sunlight.

Uses

The most used part of the Lily is the flower, but the rest of the plant can be used or eaten.

  • The underground part of the Lily is called a rhizome. This is the root, or stalk, of the Lily. It can be eaten raw, or sliced into rounds and added to soups. The rhizome has a bland taste but is high in vitamins and minerals.
  • The seeds can be dried and powdered to create a slightly sweet-smelling and very bitter laxative, which can also cause mild hallucinogenic effects.
  • The pads are often used to wrap expensive fish, making it extremely tender when fire-roasted, with a hint of the flavor from the flower’s tea. The laxative effect of the pad is only present if the pads are consumed with the fish, and is fairly mild.
  • The white flowers, normally dried and used for tea, have a wonderfully rejuvenating effect, and are believed among the hellbends to increase rigen. While this claim is all but disproven, it’s high in vitamin Bs and caffeine making it a good choice for those with low rigen. The white flower tea is very popular and expensive.

Unique Aspects

While this flowering plant seems fairly normal most of the time, it has a very odd reaction to large amounts of Rigen. When exposed, the flowers take on a purple hue, all the way to a deep blue depending on the rigen available. This blue flower, when made into a tea or steeped in wine, will force the user into a dream-like state, far beyond hallucinating. The Rigen and drug from the flower attacks the user’s mind, separating it from their body temporarily, causing the imagination to go wild and the user to experience it as if it were real. When used in close proximity to others taking the drug, the rigen creates a shared experience between the users. While often a pleasant experience, those with hidden trauma may find a hellish landscape holding their fears. Because the mind and body are separated by the Rigen, most physical harm is not possible, but extreme emotions like fear can cause heart attacks and seizures. The effects of a normal dose last about 3 hours for a human, or 1.5 for a hellbend due to their higher rigen diluting the effect.

For most who take the blue flower tea – or Sacred Dreamscape as it is known – the effects seem 100% real until it wears off. Those with a good knowledge of rigen (Rigenology of Journeyman or better) or experience with mental rigen (Telepathy of Journeyman or better) can become self-aware, allowing them to control the environment at will, even with others present. All actions in the Dreamscape use Rigenology for their checks, or the spell of telepathy if that is how the users are self-aware. All information will be retained when the effects wear off. A Telepath can enter an active Dreamscape directly, letting them avoid the adverse effect of the drug and leaving at will, but the Rigen required to do so allows them to do little more the observe.

OOC Notes

Each dose will use 20 rigen by the time the effects wear off. This is not affected by what is done in the Dreamscape. Some users may find themselves feeling the effects of low rigen, but this is purely a side effect of the drug and will wear off. When trying to affect the environment with others present, your relative skill or spell must be higher than the combined skill of the others present. Two or more PCs can work together to create an effect. If a Telepath joining without using Sacred Dreamscape creates or changes the environment in any significant way, the rigen requirements will force them to leave soon after. Using the flower to keep a telepath in the Dreamscape will allow them to do much more, and at no rigen cost (It is the skill and knowledge, not the spell, that affects things while inside).
